Hut-to-Hut Adventures from Krossbu
Krossbu is perfectly located in the heart of the DNT trail network, making it an ideal starting point for memorable hut-to-hut hikes in Jotunheimen. From gentle day hikes to demanding multi-day mountain journeys, there are routes to suit a wide range of experience levels.
Krossbu – Skogadalsbøen
Highly recommended. This well-marked trail leads from Krossbu down through the lush Utladalen Valley, passing wild glacial rivers and offering spectacular scenery throughout.

Krossbu – Fannaråkhytta – Skogadalsbøen – Avdalen Farm – Hjelle.
Krossbu – Fannaråken
Glacier crossings to Fannaråken are organised by the Norwegian Trekking Association (DNT). From Krossbu, you hike to the glacier edge (approx. 2.5 hours) where you meet the glacier guide. The glacier crossing itself takes around 2 hours.
You may return across the glacier to Krossbu the following morning or continue independently down to Turtagrø.
Important: Rope team places must be booked in advance directly with Fannaråkhytta. Overnight accommodation must also be reserved ahead of time due to limited capacity.
Krossbu – Leirvassbu
On request, we can arrange a guided glacier crossing to Leirvassbu. This is a long and spectacular tour of around 8 hours, offering outstanding views along the way. Many hikers choose to continue onwards from Leirvassbu on their own. Transport back to Krossbu can be arranged if needed.
Krossbu – Turtagrø
You can hike to Turtagrø by following the historic cairn-marked route across the mountains – an atmospheric journey along an old travel route.

A demanding hike of 24.2 km through varied and often challenging terrain, especially in wet conditions or when snow remains on parts of the route. Allow plenty of time and be prepared for a long and rewarding mountain day.
